Herbs & Spices

Let’s spice things up! Herbs and spices are next up on the daily dozen. Scientist are discovering the powerful antioxidant properties of herbs and spices.

Turmeric – One of the trends I’ve been seeing around lately is the golden milk latte. The golden color is provided by turmeric. Lucky for all my golden latte lovers out there- turmeric has incredible properties which protect from DNA damage and provides anti-inflammatory effects. Just ¼ TEASPOON a day, will provide beneficial effects.

Cilantro – Good news for all those salsa lovers out there – researchers found that 20 sprigs of cilantro daily for 2 months reduced inflammation levels in those with arthritis and also cut uric-acid levels in half – may be helpful for those suffering from gout!

Ginger – Calling all my ginger fans!! A study conducted compared the efficacy of ginger for treating migraine headaches compared to one of the top selling drugs on the market. Researchers found that just ⅛ of a teaspoon of powdered ginger worked just as well and as fast as the drug!!!

Herbs and spices can be added to almost everything and anything you can think of – scrambles, roasts, soups, stews, stir frys, veggies, smoothies, desserts, you name it!!
